ABOUT LISA

I’ve worked in journalism, publishing and media for more than 40 years, and I love helping young people discover their voice, develop ideas and enjoy the excitement of storytelling.

Currently, I run a growing programme of writing workshops and courses, alongside a successful network of writers groups across the local area. I founded the first writers group at Read on Sea in 2024, and it quickly developed into a thriving creative community, leading to the launch of a second group in Southend.

I’ve previously taught storytelling and creative writing to children in grades 8, 9 and 10, as well as guest lectured at various universities, including the University of Gloucester, Oxford Brookes, Cardiff University, Sheffield University and the City of London University. My celebrity journalism memoir, Ryan is Ready For You Now, was published in 2020. I’ve had various screenplays optioned and was a former storyliner on Coronation Street.

TESTIMONIALS

“Last year, Lisa delivered a comprehensive lesson plan that, over a six-week period, had students study some of the greatest short stories ever written. They learned and practiced key story elements such as character development, setting, atmosphere, plot creation, and foreshadowing.

The ultimate goal was for students to craft their own short story. Each student wrote a 1200-word story shared with peers, inspiring them to create an additional 500-word story, a leftover from Lisa’s lessons and exercises.

Lisa is a warm and engaging tutor, and the students always enjoyed their sessions with her – even inviting her to their graduation ceremony. I look forward to inviting her to teach another class in the future.Phaedra Cheydleur, Westside Waldorf Lead Teacher, Santa Monica, CA.
