MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

For £15 a month, you’ll become a part of our ever-growing and wonderfully supportive community of writers, and have the opportunity to regularly share your work, and receive critique (never criticism) in a safe and friendly space. There’s plenty of discussion, spitballing, story analysis and conversation.

You’ll be added to our Whatsapp group, which is how we chat during the month, and is another way to share your work, as well as news about relevant book/writing events, competitions and other snippets of interest.

Writers group members get one 50% discounted coaching/mentoring hour (enquire for fees). These hours are useful if you’re at a particularly gnarly stage of your writing, are looking for further accountability and want to take a deeper dive deeper into your work.

Additionally, membership gives you a full free subscription to my online writers group, The TEN, on Substack. Every week I send out a Monday motivation, and I also share interviews with writers and industry insiders, plus a monthly curated newsletter crammed with reviews, recommendations and reads.

The three rules of fight club writers group are:

  1. You must be serious about your writing and commit to bringing new work to the group every month. A few days before the meet up you’ll be asked to share whatever it is you’ve been working on to the Whatsapp group. This is designed to keep your writing moving forward. I understand people might feel nervous about sharing their writing but the aim is to hear from everyone and not have anyone lurk on the sidelines. This is for fairness but also it’s a great way to build confidence and everyone is very supportive.
  2. Which brings me on to point number two. Critique not criticise. You must be open-minded, kind and considerate. This writers group is a safe space where people share work that can be very personal to them. Please be mindful, especially if somebody is sharing a real life experience.
  3. During the course of the evening, please think about purchasing at least one drink from the cafe. Better still, buy all your books from Read-on-Sea and support our fantastic independent book store!

WHO COMES TO WRITERS GROUP?

We have members who are writing not just novels but screenplays, plays, memoirs, short stories and poetry. We have authors who make their living from writing and others who are just starting out on their writing journey. Everyone gets the same warm welcome.

Input from the group is invaluable and everyone leaves with a smile on their face because the sense of community, creativity and positive energy is so strong. I’m not saying it’s group therapy but if you’re a writer, it’s close enough!

Email me at lisamarksmedia@gmail.com if you have any other questions.

See you there!
